🎣 Tarpon Fly Fishing in Río Lagartos, Yucatán

Welcome to one of the most peaceful and productive tarpon fisheries in Mexico — the Ría Lagartos Biosphere Reserve.
From your base at Ría Maya Lodge, you’re just steps from the dock and minutes away from shallow lagoons, mangroves, and estuaries full of silver kings.

Whether you’re here for a day on the flats or a week chasing giants, Río Lagartos offers a unique combination of unspoiled nature, expert local guides, and personalized service.

🌅 Our Fishing Experience

Each morning begins quietly — soft light over the mangroves, calm water, and the sound of rolling tarpon. Our experienced local guides know where and when to find them.

We focus on quality over quantity, adapting every trip to your experience and goals. Some days mean stalking baby tarpon in crystal-clear lagoons; others, casting for giants over deep channels near the Gulf.

It’s a relaxed rhythm — unhurried, connected with nature, and deeply rewarding.

🐟 Tarpon Seasons in Río Lagartos

  • Baby Tarpon (5–30 lbs): Available year-round, mainly in shallow lagoons and mangrove creeks. Perfect for fly or light-tackle anglers.
  • Giant Tarpon (60–120 lbs+): Peak season runs from May to October, when big migratory fish enter the estuary from the Gulf of Mexico.

The calm, protected waters allow fishing in most weather conditions — no long boat rides or rough seas.
